MELK continues the focus on new Scandinavian photography and is proud to present a solo-exhibition by the Swedish artist Linda Hofvander entitled Tangible Truths.
Through her photographic studies Hofvander creates a visual world that is intuitive and playful. An immersion with the magic of the visual world becomes fundamental in her work. The basis for her art lies within an exploratory and critical interpretation of the medium per se, where she explores the representative capabilities of the photograph, as well as the illusion that photography is a physical representation of the real.
In Tangible Truths the sculptural compositions focus on geometric shapes and everyday objects. The way in which these objects are portrayed in the photographic landscape becomes central. They appear as a combination of illusion and reality where the presence of reality is explored through the abstract and formal visual expressions.
In our contemporary hyper-visual life, where most seem to be affected by noise, Hofvander creates a dialogue with the spectator, and brings out a photographic language that is open to interpretation. The total absence of narrative brings the spectator into a territory where a new platform for our visual understanding is recreated.
Linda Hofvander (b. 1978) graduated with MA in Photography from the University of Gothenburg in 2010 and BA from the London College of Communication in 2006. Hofvander has held solo exhibitions in Gothenburg and Malmö and participated in group exhibitions at Akershus Art Centre in Lillestrøm, Hasselblad Center in Gothenburg, Gothenburg Konsthall and Liljevalchs Konsthall in Stockholm. She is currently part of a residency program by Hippolyte in Helsinki initiated by Focus A-i-r.
